This past April, my husband and I celebrated Maple’s 1st birthday. When we first adopted Maple from our local shelter, she was only 8 weeks old and about 4 lbs. She was so tiny! We were told at the shelter that she was a Jack Russell mix (she is definitely NOT a Jack Russell).
Raising a puppy was a lot more challenging than I ever would have expected, and after almost a year of raising our first puppy together, we can finally see the light at the end of the puppy tunnel. Maple is a wonderful dog and I love her more and more with each passing day. Although she still chews up the occasional shoe, her sweet nature and affectionate personality make us quickly forget. I wouldn’t say we were completely unprepared to raise a puppy, but we definitely could have been a little more aware of what we were getting ourselves into! That being said, adopting Maple, was one of the greatest decisions we have ever made!
